What if my mind doesn't shut up? PART ONE

Happy SUNDAY! 🤍 This should have gone up Thursday. My apologies for the delay, but I believe that today was the day for these words to come out. Here it goes. May this be a blessing to your life.

What If My Mind Doesn’t Shut Up?

Have you ever wished you could just turn your mind off?

So many of us live with nonstop mental noise—racing thoughts, what-ifs, worst-case scenarios, mental replays of conversations, and constant problem-solving. Add lack of rest, poor nutrition, or emotional overload, and your mind starts to feel like it never gets a break.

But here is an important truth: your busy mind is not a sign of spiritual failure—and peace is still available to you.

Peace Is Not Something You Protect — It’s Someone You Receive

We often say, “I don’t want anyone or anything to take my peace.”And I get it—because life can be loud, people can be draining, and seasons can be overwhelming. But here’s what I’ve learned: Peace isn’t something people give… and it isn’t something people can steal.

So many of us treat peace like it’s fragile—like something we have to guard by controlling our environment. We think, “If everyone would stop stressing me out, I’d have peace.” Or, “If this situation would change, I’d finally breathe again.”

But biblical peace doesn’t come from having a perfect life. It comes from being connected to a perfect God. Peace is not just a feeling—it’s a presence. Peace is not something you earn—it’s someone you receive. HIS NAME IS JESUS!

Jesus said:

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.Not as the world gives do I give to you.” John 14:27

The world’s peace depends on circumstances. God’s peace stays steady even when circumstances don’t. And that’s why peace is a fruit of the Spirit:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…Galatians 5:22

So the goal isn’t just, “How do I protect my peace from people?”It becomes, “How do I stay connected to the Prince of Peace?”

Because when you receive Him… you receive what He carries.

“What Do I Do in the Moment?”

In session, clients often ask me this question—sometimes through tears, sometimes in frustration:

“What do I do in the moment… when my mind is spiraling and I feel like I’m losing control?”

Here’s the honest answer I’ve learned—both professionally and personally: in the moment, your job isn’t to fix every thought. It’s to regulate your body and spirit.

And I truly believe there is no better way to regulate than spending time with Him.

I’ve experienced this myself, and it’s something I teach often. Regulation doesn’t always look like deep insight or perfect prayers. Sometimes it’s simply choosing God over the noise. For me, worship music has always been a safe place. Lately, even more than music, it has been reading the Word of God—slowly, intentionally, letting truth wash over me.

And just yesterday… I realized something deeper. I didn’t need my phone. I didn’t need distractions. I just needed God.

So I put on my headphones, got on my knees, and sought Him—not asking for anything—just worshiping Him and sitting in His presence. And the peace that came wasn’t because every thought disappeared… but because His presence became louder than the noise.

But here’s the part we tend to dismiss… this is a marathon, not a moment. Peace is not built in one prayer—it’s formed in the daily practice of meeting with God.

The more you make room for Him—His Word, worship, stillness, and surrender—the more your mind begins to recognize peace as home. The spiraling will lessen. It may still come, but it won’t dominate you the same way. It may knock… but it doesn’t get to live there anymore. In Jesus’ name.

And let me say this clearly: this isn’t ignoring it, and it isn’t suppressing it.This is facing it with Him. Working through it with Him. Bringing it into the light. And allowing God to have every room in your heart and mind. AMEN!

A Prayer for the Loud-Mind Days

Lord, You see my mind, and You know how loud it gets. You see the racing thoughts, the what-ifs, and the weight I carry in silence. Today, I don’t come to You with perfect words—I come because I need You. Teach me how to regulate in Your presence. Help me choose You over noise, and worship over worry. Give me the kind of peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances—Your peace that steadies my heart and guards my mind. I surrender what I can’t control, and I receive what You freely give.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Reflection

If your mind has been loud lately, I want you to know this: you are not broken. You are not failing. You are not “too much.”You are human… and you are held. HIS PEACE IS AVAILABLE TO YOU EVERYDAY!

👉 In Part 2, we’ll talk about why our minds spiral and what to do step-by-step when it happens—how to pause, take the thought captive, and replace it with truth.

See you next week! Share it with a friend and let's learn, heal and grow together in HIM.
